IFPN Releases New Statement on Smoke PlumeInternational Federation of Perioperative Nurses (IFPN) releases new Position Statement on Smoke PlumeThe International Federation of Perioperative Nurses (IFPN) has released a new guideline on surgical smoke plume entitled “IFPN Guideline on Smoke Plume”. IFPN is comprised of a consortium of international nursing organizations, including the U.S. AORN (Association of periOperative Nurses) and Canada’s ORNAC (Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada). In total, the member organizations of IFPN represent over 80,000 operating room nursing professionals worldwide.
As part of their dedication to the members they represent, IFPN has issued a Guideline on Surgical Plume. Sponsored by Buffalo Filter, this Guideline provides workplace safety recommendations on the management of surgical smoke which includes smoke evacuation systems, ultra fine particle surgical masks, and wall suction filter elements, should such devices will be utilized to capture plume.
